Since 1757 the Rodez family are winemakers in Grand Cru Ambonnay, Montagne de Reims. Eric Rodez, a true artisan of his trade, works together with his wife Martine, his son Mickael and daughter Aurélie in the 9th generation. They grow and process exclusively their own Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The champagnes are intense and individual. The non-vintage champagnes are characterized by a high percentage of reserve wines and their partial vinification in oak. Eric Rodez champagne is a thorough reflection of knowledge and dedication with an outstanding quality that can be seen and tasted in each bottle.
Eric Rodez at a young age worked in Burgundy, Beaujolais and the Rhone but also in the cellars of Champagne Krug. He masters the art of assembling like no one else. Every year he receives from only 7 hectares of vineyards about 60 different wines from his grapes, which he grows and processes separately. By blending separately prepared wines, a higher complexity is achieved. They often show fine maturity and are complex and long.
Today, Eric Rodez is on a quest of perfection, to find the alchemy between humans and vines in their exceptional terroir. He has lots of old vines all with premium exposure at mid-slope. Subtle use of oak and control of malolactic fermentation along with a large stock of reserve wines which appear more and more precise, allow Eric to create a brilliant range of terroir driven champagnes. We also observe that the use of dosage has decreased over the last couple of years making the entire range extra-brut. With his son Mikhael more importance is being placed on vineyard specific wines. Blocking of malolactic adds more elegance and length. Finally, Eric has refurbished his cellars and cuverie with modern stainless-steel tanks and much more barrel storage. The recent change of labels with a more modern touch and adding QR codes allowing the consumer to discover the full story behind ever bottle, show us that this champagne house is on a constant search for excellence.
Champagne Eric Rodez is certified Demeter (Biologic and Biodynamic Agriculture) and HVE “High Environmental Value” (“Haute Valeur Environnementale”) which certifies the organic farming, biodiversity and the responsible use of water in the winery. Annual production appr. 50'000 bottles.
