BLANC DE NOIRS 2019 from the plot LE GRAND CHEMIN
Historically, a bandite could refer to a plot of land left fallow or temporarily uncultivated, allowing the soil to rest and biodiversity to regenerate. In this context, Louise uses the term bandite to refer to an exceptional plot of land on the estate where biodiversity flourishes, with abundant flora and fauna coexisting harmoniously with the vines. This plot is cultivated using organic and agroforestry practices. Inspired by the idea of a ‘bandite’, the viticulture here reflects a philosophy where craftsmanship blends with a deep respect for nature, to fully express the unique character of the terroir. Bandite takes part in the rebirth of an extraordinary place
HARVEST 2019
2019 was marked by extreme weather conditions: drought and heatwave. The intense heat of the summer, with temperatures in excess of 40°C, caused episodes of water stress, but the rains at the end of the summer kept the vines in excellent health. Harvesting began at the Domaine at the beginning of September. The Pinot Noirs are showing excellent ripeness and remarkable aromatic potential.
The Terroir
Bandite is a 100% Pinot Noir cuvée made from vines planted in 1988 on a 10-acre plot of land known as ‘Le Grand Chemin’ in Vrigny, a Premier Cru village on the Montagne de Reims. This plot faces east, ideal for catching the morning light, and lies on a hillside with clay-rich soil, offering optimum conditions for an elegant and unique expression of Pinot Noir.
Vineyard work
Organic viticulture and agroforestry based on observation, understanding and respect for natural balances. The soil is maintained with permanent plant cover, made up of a variety of indigenous plants. The work in the vineyard is low interventionist: short pruning, controlled yields, all with respect for the biotope.
Natural winemaking and ageing
Natural winemaking: Pressing followed by transfer to small casks, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts from the locality and natural malolactic fermentation.
Ageing: On the lees for 11 months in small barrels. A wine-wood-lees ratio that enhances the wine's complexity and roundness. Clarification: Natural, without fining or filtration, to preserve the aromatic integrity of the wine before bottling. Sparkling: Controlled with pressure limited to 4-4.5 atmospheres. Ageing: 60 months in the Domaine's underground cellars. Dosage: Zero dosage
Corking: Very high quality cork (double round ‘Fleur de bouchon’).
Rest after disgorging: 6 months, guaranteeing exceptional balance and finesse
