Champagne TARLANT, Oeuilly, RM
Terroir Brut Nature - Vallée de la Marne
Benoit and Mélanie are already the 12th generation of Champagne Tarlant, a small wine estate that has been producing traditional champagne since 1687. The grapes of Champagne Tarlant grow on a particular soil in the heart of the Marne Valley, and this traditional winemaking family considers expressing this "terroir" in champagne as its own mission. The types of soil include chalk, limestone, marl, sand, and gravel.
Benoit and Mélanie are passionate about their vines and wish to preserve them for the future, which means they practice a non-interventionist philosophy in the vineyards, focusing on low yields and using biodynamic methods to produce the best possible fruit each year. All their wines are certified organic. Additionally, in the winery, indigenous yeasts are preferred, and great care is taken in pressing to preserve the delicate character of the grapes.
The champagnes produced by Tarlant are powerful and concentrated, with partial aging in barrels giving them depth and structure. They are proud of their Brut Nature style (no dosage), completely foregoing the addition of sugar.
The Tarlants are also admirably transparent on the back label of their bottles, providing maximum information for the consumer, including the grape varieties used, terroir location, dosage and disgorgement date. Each bottle is disgorged by hand. Annual production is approximately 140,000 bottles.
