Meunier from old vines from Vrigny 1er Cru

Straight Pinot Meunier is obviously a rare bird and in Egly’s hands it is something very special. Low yields, old vines (planted in the 1960s) and a late harvest make this one of the most intense Meunier wines kicking around. This 100% Pinot Meunier spent 42 -48 months on its lees, way more than any other Pinot Meunier wine in the region. For most Champagne houses, this is the time they give their very top cuvées; for Egly, this is the minimum. Spicy, textural, yet very dry and mineral. Bottled without filtration. Dosage for this bottling is a very low 1-2 g/l. Few winemakers plant Pinot Meunier on premier cru land; fewer still on terroir that is essentially an extension of the noble Montaigne de Reims.
