Understanding soil means understanding time – what came first, and what sits above it. Ancient oceans left behind chalk subsoil deposits in the Champagne region when they receded 70 million years ago. The locally renowned vineyards of Cramant possess a flat topography and chalky subsoil. Le Bateau (a plot named the boat) is one of these very special lieux-dits resting on chalky and salty soil, producing aromatic and mineral champagnes with saline hints, as well as a long finish on the palate. This wine is in memory of the ocean, this lieu-dit is a journey through time, a tribute to the salty universe present in Champagne millions of years ago.

This is the wine succeeding VER SACRUM which Bonnaire used to sell as a NV blend of several plots.
